Iyanla is too busy trying to help Althea from Love and Hip-Hop and Duchess from Black Ink Crew this season to take on the major issues surrounding R. Kelly. In a recent interview with ABC about the upcoming season of her show, Ms. Vanzant said that she wouldn't be able to help Kelly, and that he had reached out to her long before this recent crisis. Iyanla also says that she cannot help the survivors because they are "not ready." Take a look.
There's always been something entertaining and pseudo-inspiring about OWN's show Iyanla, Fix My Life. The idea of someone healing those who need it the most gives us all warm and fuzzy feelings inside. Unfortunately, in the world of TV, no such thing exists. Iyanla's show has soon evolved from a feel-good show to a drama-filled reality show that provokes guests for memorable moments. Here are 5 times when Ms. VanZant couldn't fix a thing but pissed people off in the process. 5. Iyanla vs. Laura Govan After attacking Laura Govan about the way that she dresses and her career, Laura fights back the next day and defends herself as a mother. Never the one to apologize or admit wrong, Iyanla redirects the conversation to make it as if Laura is more concerned with selling accessories than receiving Iyanla's so-called "healing." Even though Iyanla is there to make money, no one else should? NO FIX HERE-Laura Govan is still dressing like a reality star, selling earrings, and she still is a mother. 4. Iyanla vs. Kevin McCall Iyanla really thought she had a breakthrough when she got Kevin McCall to blame his anger on his mother's behavior. After hours and hours of talk about violence and inappropriate behavior there was NO FIX. Kevin McCall continues to beef with Chris Brown and has even "pulled up" on him. They've exchanged gun fire and have involved gang members in their ongoing beef. On top of his issues with Brown, McCall has been accused many times of attacking women. McCall has also disowned his daughter after his baby mother Eva Marcille filed a restraining order against him and moved on from her relationship with him. 3. Iyanla vs. Neffe When Keyshia Cole sister Neffe sat down to talk with Iyanla she got more than she bargained for. Iyanla was extremely harsh on Neffe and called her a nasty, vile guttersnipe as well as a bitch! Iyanla backtracked her nasty words and tried to clean up her usage of the word bitch. In this video, Tami Roman expresses her dictate for Iyanla's approach. NO FIX HERE-Neffe and her husband divorced right after the episode was taped. #2 Iyanla vs. Karreuche Tran Karreuche's interview with Iyanla about her breakup with Chris Brown quickly went laugh when Iyanla was warned about asking questions that Karreuche's team didn't authorize. Karreuche's manager and Iyanla have engaged in a war of words ever since. Iyanla has even made comments about her manager's control over her career and Karreuche's quest for success. NO FIX HERE, it appears nothing was broken. Since leaving Chris Brown, Karreuche has won two Emmy awards and starred in the hit show Claws on TNT. #1-Iyanla vs. Kamiyah Mobley Arguably, her most famous non-fix came when she taunted abduction victim Kamiyah Mobley about spending the night in her "safe house." Iyanla's goal was to trigger Kamiyah and that's exactly what happened. The only problem was Kamiyah completely snapped and threatened Iyanla and her crew. As usual, Iyanla takes no responsibility or apologizes and makes statements about Kamiyah's family not "having the tools" to help Kamiyah. It didn't appear that Iyanla had the tools either. In later interviews, Mobley's father said that Iyanla's son approached Kamiyh and threatened her in defense of his mother. Of course that wasn't aired on the show. NO FIX HERE- Kamiyah Mobley is still hurt and possibly more traumatized than she was before.
Appearing on E!'s Daily Pop, Tisha Campbell-Martin teased a Martin reboot. A video has surfaced showing former stars of the iconic sitcom Martin discussing the possibility of a reunion. Martin Lawrence, Tisha Campbell, and Tichina Arnold were spotted outside a Mortons’ Steakhouse after having lunched. The sighting sparked rumors that the show could be headed for a revivial. No details were provided but all the stars teased at the possibility of a revival in the works. Lawrence himself said “Never say never” when asked about Martin’s return. The show which ended in the 90’s airs reruns on many channels and was honored by VH1 Hip-Hop Honors last year for it’s contributions to the hip-hop culture. Lawrence accepted the honor in a emotional speech in which he lauded hip-hop’s influence on himself and the iconic sitcom. The shows ending was surrounded with controversy as Tisha Campbell refused to be filmed with Lawrence, causing the show’s storylines to suffer as much of the show’s appeal was in the chemistry between the cast members. Since the show has gone off air, Campbell has starred in My Wife and Kids and more recently Dr. Ken. Tichina Arnold’s career took off with her stint on Everybody Hates Chris and more recently VH1’s Daytime Divas. Lawrence’s career has been up and down but he has enjoyed major box office success in movies such as Life, the Bad Boys film franchise, the Big Momma’s House franchise, and many other major box office hits. When the show starts, the four hosts come out and immediately sit in their chairs. They don’t acknowledge the existence of the audience. The hosts of the show barely interact with the audience and it’s as if the audience is just another part of the cast. On television, it looks like they are talking to the audience and interacting, but the truth is they are reading from a teleprompter and making sure to look directly into the camera.
During the commercial breaks, the energy on the set completely changes. The production staff comes out and touches up make-up and the hosts barely even look at each other. Ladies and gentleman, it is definitely a SHOW! When the hosts moved from their table to the stage, we were told that we could interact with them at this point. The interaction was minimal. They quickly brushed up on their lines and got their hair fluffed.
The hosts looked tired for the taping that we went to. I assumed they were on their 2nd or 3rd taping for the day. Tamera Mowry gave us a few smiles and appeared to be the most appreciative of fans in the audience. Jeannie Mai was just as energetice in real life as she comes across on television. Adrienne Bailon looked like she was done for the day but she eeked out a smile and wave for the audience. Loni Love did all that she could do to avoid eye contact with the audience. It was as if she was annoyed by our presence. Loni did not look our way, let alone smile or show any kind of gratitude for our 4 hour adventure to come see her show.
At the end of the show, the producers gave Loni the microphone to address the crowd. She literally refused to address us and handed the mic over to Jeannie. Jeannie was bubbly and sweet and seemed to understand the importance of acknowledging the audience who are also fans of the show. Tamera waited back to take a picture with a fan, which I thought was really sweet of her. The biggest shock of the day was Ms. Loni Love. I thought she would be the most down to Earth one out of all of them. That’s the way they play up her role on the show. She is quite the actress, cause Ms. Love appeared to be a diva to me. Overall, it was a fun experience and I would recommend giving it a shot. Just know that you will be required to do a lot of waiting and don’t expect to feel like a part of the show. It’s a show, and you are just there to watch. |
